Six weeks after the release of Office for iOS, Microsoft has released the app on the Google Play store for Android phones. It allows you to access and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. You can download it here.
The app is free to download, but you need an Office 365 subscription to view or edit your documents, which are stored in SkyDrive, Microsoft’s cloud service. For information about the various Office 365 subscription plans, check out Microsoft’s website.
Just like the Windows Phone and iPhone versions of Office, the features are limited on Android. You can do basic editing and formatting (like bold, italics, and font color), but not much more. For full access to the programs’ features, you still need to use the desktop software.
Microsoft currently has no plans to bring the Office to tablets, and instead recommends subscribers use the web app on those devices.
