Microsoft has released the latest version of their Surface tablet, the Surface Pro 3, and the reviews are in. So how does it hold up against the competition?
Pretty well overall. The Surface Pro 3 is a laptop/tablet hybrid, so it can be used with a mouse and keyboard or as a straight-up touchscreen device. However, most reviewers, including The Verge and PC World, agree that the device is essentially a laptop with some tablet functionality added on for convenience.
Everyone seems to appreciate the 12-inch screen and the highly-improved kickstand that lets you set the device at any angle you want, rather than preset angles like the previous versions. The $130 keyboard add-on is also a must buy. On the downside, not everyone is crazy about the basic idea of combining a laptop with a tablet.
The Verge says the Surface Pro 3 is “the ideal physical form for Windows 8.1. Both the OS and the hardware feel like a computer with some (occasionally great) tablet features tacked on top.”
