For a company that’s downright elderly compared to most successful tech companies nowadays, Microsoft is proving itself to be surprisingly nimble of late. Ever since Satya Nadella took control of the company as CEO earlier this year, the changes have been coming fast and furiously, particularly on the Office front.
The latest news is that the company is bringing a chat feature to its Word and PowerPoint web apps to aid in real-time collaboration. The feature will run on the Microsoft-owned Skype service, so you’ll be able to view your chats later on Skype if you need to refer to them.
No plans have been announced to bring chat to Excel. But if you want to yuck it up while collaborating on a Word or PowerPoint document, you’ll be able to do so in the “coming weeks.”
