SIMnet is updating several assignment preferences in the Course Manager on the morning of Friday, March 19th. These updates provide our instructors greater ability to customize their course.
Editing Assignment-Level Preferences
Exams in SIMnet now have a new Exam Property when creating an exam: Allow Assignment Preference Override. When selected, this preference allows instructors in courses that have the exam assigned to edit a number of preferences for that course only. This works for SIMnet Exams, Testbank Exams and SIMpath Exams.
When editing Exams and Testbank exams, the Allow Assignment Preference Override option is on the Exam Preferences tab. The individual preferences are also in the same location.
When editing SIMpath Pre-Tests and Post-tests, first change the Allow Assignment Preference Override option in the SIMpath Prefs.. tab. The Pre-Test and Post-Test settings can be edited independently in the Assignment Details pane when assigning the SIMpath to a Class or Student.
Selecting that option lets instructors in courses that have that exam assigned edit a number of preferences for that course’s exam only. Those are the Time Limit, Hide Timer, Allow to Pause Exam, Exam Attempts Allowed; and Question Attempts preferences. Use the Reset to Exam Defaults button to restore the Exam Preferences to their original setting.
These additional settings apply to Personal Assignments as well. However, Personal Assignments that are linked to Course Assignments are limited by the Course Assignment’s setting.
New Late Penalties can be calculated Per Hour or Per Day
SIMnet assignments that have Due and End Dates can now assign late penalties Per Hour and Per Day in addition to the previous Per Assignment option. Per Hour and Per Day late penalties will be applied each time an hour or a day has passed and will be assessed until the assignment is submitted or the Lowest Possible Grade for Late Submission has been surpassed.
In the above setup, the student will lose 10% of their assignment submission score for each day they are late in submitting their assignment. However, if their assignment score is already below 40% they will not receive additional deduction penalties. In addition, if their submission score is over 40% they will only receive deductions until their score reaches 40%.
Instructors do not need to set a Lowest Possible Grade for Late Submission value when creating deductions. If the value is set, it must be lower than a single value of the Late Submission Deduction. For example, if the Late Submission Deduction is set to 5%, the Lowest Possible Grade for Late Submission must be 95% or lower.
Customizing Assignment Titles for Lessons and Resources
Resource Assignment Titles and Lesson Assignment Titles can now be updated at the assignment level for each course. To edit a Resource Assignment Title or Lesson Assignment Title, change the Title value on the Organizer page or the Edit/Assign page for the course.
